Summary General text description of the levee system with a summary of why the levee is there, and the benefits it provides.
Star Bridge (LB) Levee is a non-federal, primary levee on the left bank of the Big Wood River, Idaho. Flood Control District No. 9 of Idaho is the sponsor and responsible for operation and maintenance of the levee. The Initial Eligibility Inspection (IEI) Report was completed in February 1988 and subsequently instated into USACE’s Rehabilitation and Inspection Program. The original construction date is unknown. It is about 1,250 feet long; has an average crown width of 12 feet; riverside and landside slopes are about 1.5H:1V; and has an average embankment height of 6 feet.
Performance & Condition General text description of the historical and anticipated performance of the levee, the people and property benefitting from the levee and who may be at risk of flooding, and actions to address areas of concern.
PLEASE NOTE: The following Risk Characterization is a description of risk associated with this levee system. It is currently undergoing review and may be updated in the future. The Levee Senior Oversight Group considers the risk characterization associated with the Star Bridge (LB) Levee (LST ID 5231) to be Low for breach prior to Overtopping and Low for Overtopping. The levee was loaded to approximately 75% of its height in 2006. There is a high likelihood of poor performance associated with embankment erosion; erosion and displaced riprap revetment was observed at the upstream portion of the levee. During a large event the river velocities are estimated to be ten feet per second; in areas where revetment is displaced erosion is likely to occur. The estimated loss of life is low and economic damages are also low.
