Summary General text description of the levee system with a summary of why the levee is there, and the benefits it provides.
Bible Camp Levee is a non-federal levee on the right bank of the Big Wood River, Idaho. Flood Control District No. 9 of Idaho is the sponsor and responsible for operation and maintenance of the levee. The Initial Eligibility Inspection (IEI) Report was completed in February 1988 and subsequently instated into USACE’s Rehabilitation and Inspection Program. The original construction date is unknown. It is about 750 feet long; has an average crown width of 12 feet; riverside and landside slopes are about 1.5H:1V; and has an average embankment height of 8 feet.
Performance & Condition General text description of the historical and anticipated performance of the levee, the people and property benefitting from the levee and who may be at risk of flooding, and actions to address areas of concern.
PLEASE NOTE: The following Risk Characterization is a description of risk associated with this levee system. It is currently undergoing review and may be updated in the future. The LSOG considers the risk characterization associated with the Bible Camp Levee (LST ID 5229) to be Low (LSAC 4) for Prior to Overtopping and low (LSAC 4) for Overtopping. The levee is expected to have a high likelihood of poor performance under future flood loads with regard to embankment erosion based on past performance and the condition of the levee. The embankment has been loaded to a maximum of 60%. The potential for poor performance is driven by embankment erosion primarily due to degraded condition of riprap revetment, existing erosion sites and expected velocities during a fully loaded condition. Economic damages are very low and the potential for loss of life is unlikely for both breach prior to overtopping and for overtopping.
